Curiosity and dawdling over small things is typical 21 month behavior. Instead of being frustrated by it, plan extra time to get where you need to go and spend the extra time teaching your toddler about the things that stop her in her tracks and fascinate her.
This is a time of increasing curiosity. She wants to know how things work, what things do in relation to other things, and loves surprise endings. When things don’t go as she expected, she will laugh and try again. Provide her lots of opportunities to explore safely.
Nineteen month olds are natural mimics both of speech and actions. They also love to do things with you. Take advantage of this time and teach your little one how to help with chores and teach lots of new vocabulary. Make a game of learning and co-operating.
Home is an active place. Your 18 month old scatters her toys everywhere. She is an expert climber, opens doors with child locks, and moves fast. Safety is your biggest concern for this curiosity stage. This is not the time to strive for an award for good housekeeping.
17 month olds are combining several skills together to accomplish a task and learning words for sensations and feelings. Watching her do more and more complex tasks reminds us our child is really learning and growing up fast.
