Your Child’s Journey

Childhood is a journey. Moms are faced with many decisions about which path to take with their babies and children. What if her child doesn’t fit the usual pattern, is he abnormal, deficient, or merely his own person? What should she do? How should she guide him?

Your Child’s Journey is a growing community of young moms and more experienced moms who want to share their experiences, their knowledge, and their joys and sorrows. Links to reliable resources, articles from experts in their fields, and conversations mom to mom will help moms and babies take first steps today on the exciting journey of childhood.

Why First Steps–the monthly bulletins?

When my grandson was born in 2006, I started First Steps. I wrote a bulletin each month as my grandson grew. I included available information on what to expect for that month of development. I sent it to my daughter-in-law, young moms in my church, and many young moms I met since then.

First Steps bulletins don’t try to answer all the questions, but to be a reliable source of information in an easy to read format. Moms who have received First Steps ask questions and send comments. This email correspondence has helped me build good, long-lasting relationships with these intelligent, enthusiastic, wonderful moms.

Who am I?

I am a wife, a mom, and a grandma. I am a nurse with NICU experience. I love to gather and share information. And my motivation is to help and encourage other women. As a young mom, I had no one to turn to with questions about childrearing. My mom had passed away before my first son was born and I lived thousands of miles from my mom in-law and my step-mom. I longed for an experienced mom to give me her insights.

As a Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in Newborn Intensive Care (NICU), I wasn’t afraid of newborn babies. But as they grew and developed, I had lots of questions.

Researching sent me to books and articles for answers. Some were helpful, some were not. But at least I was finding the information I longed for. I continued saving information on child development over the years.

I do not know it all. I cannot solve everyone’s problems. And I didn’t do everything right. But, I am learning and I want to share Your Child’s Journey with you and other moms.
