Kids Need Chores

February 23, 2019 By Diane Constantine

Kids need chores. Chores teach skills necessary for life, responsibility to do what we need to do, to realize everyone in the family participates in making a good home. The earlier you start your children doing chores, the easier it is to continue to habit. Alessia Santoro created a list of chores appropriate for each age group of children.

Wow 2012 got off to a tough start for my husband and me. I hope yours was much, much better. We have been down with a flu bug and it’s after effects. For those of you with children old enough to help with chores, don’t be afraid to try something new. If what you have been doing hasn’t worked well, January is a good time to try a new scheme, learn new habits, and see big improvements.

Here’s to a better 2012! [Read more…]

I received the following article from a Malaysian friend, Lai. She has a keen interest in children and helping parents in their challenging task of child rearing. I think it is encouraging to hear about how others raised good, successful children.

Maybe it is because we are so busy these days or maybe it is just out of fear, we do too much for our children. They are capable of so much more. When we teach them skills and then expect them to do them, we are teaching them to be the capable, diligent people we want them to be as adults. See how Lai did it. [Read more…]

Key Thought

Nineteen month olds are natural mimics both of speech and actions. They also love to do things with you. Take advantage of this time and teach your little one how to help with chores and teach lots of new vocabulary. Make a game of learning and co-operating.
